World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats. The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount. Item Level When an item gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item. It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet. When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller. The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat. There are item upgrader of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level. However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl. Item Stats The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being “the most effective.” The stat modifications of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill. The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices. Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage, special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by naming them. All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other rerolling methods. In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss. Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains. Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140. Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients. Item Failure Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails. The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.. The luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent. Note that item upgrade s are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
